WELCOME TO PRICKLY

Prickly is a literary and art publication with a twist - moving art. Everything is created with a contemporary audience with a desire to imagine outside of the box in mind. The goal of this publication is to make reading more immersive and to present art that goes beyond the page.

A letter from the Editor

This past year was a year full of firsts. In January, the first Prickly team began pitching ideas. In February, the global pandemic hit the US and within a month, all across the globe, everyone scrambled to Zoom to cling to a sense of routine, a sense of normalcy amidst the chaos. In May, Prickly Magazine launched on a Wix platform and I was already so grateful and blown away by the talent and dedication of the Prickly family. At the end of that same month, a nationwide movement bubbled up to bring attention to historically-rooted racism and police brutality. In the months that followed, the largest percentage of Americans yet believed racism was a problem to address. In September, the second Prickly team was formed--we welcomed familiar and new faces. Throughout the next couple of months, Prickly expanded to its own domain and continued with its animations and short fiction.

The team also produced our very first print issue, inspired by these firsts. Thinking about the events of this year and how Prickly was created to share art and writing where readers can escape to, I gave my artists and writers the phrase “when I’m feeling prickly,” and off they went (to their individual workrooms). Some of the stories interpret “being prickly” as the calm before the storm and some interpret it as the storm before the calm.

In our second year of operation, I am proud to take with us past lessons and to continue bringing together creativity that, as we always say, prick and prod at your imagination.

Thank you so much for being with us and please enjoy!

                                                                          Warm regards,
